Pensive Old Man

First post of 2012! Completed this during my lunchbreaks over the last month or so. I thoroughly enjoy having access to a cintiq and sketchbook.

My friend Rahul took this picture. He is a designer who does some excellent work, which you can see here:

I was inspired by this photo, so I decided to manipulate it in a style reminiscent of Rahul's. So, with the magical assistance of photoshop, here is the result.

Cover Design

A freelance job: Cover Design. In English, the title of the book is Holy Warrior. The specifications for this particular project were along the lines of "A man standing on the shore, looking across a lake at an ominous castle in the moonlight. Mysterious tone."

The Lock Smiths

I had access to a really sweet camera for a short period of time a few months ago and took some pictures on Granville Island. I took quite a few close up shots of random objects. Today I came across a picture of a lock that I'd taken that day and decided that there should be a couple of lumberjacks trying to break into it.

Soggy Dog - First Pass

An impulsive Jack Russell Terrier struggles against his environment in an attempt to remain dry. I have been working on this board off and on since last summer and this is the latest version, constructive criticism is highly appreciated!

Bring back the Jets!!
For anyone who has been following the ongoing decline of the Phoenix Coyote's organization, I think this just about sums it up.

Letting Go

I saw this guy in the Vancouver library totally immersed in books from the war. I decided to try tone it up a bit, got carried away and then lost interest. This is the result.

Another one from BC!

I loved sketching in Whistler, the mountain bikers are just a lot of fun to caricature. I did this quick pen sketch a couple months ago and I finally got around to doing a speed paint on photoshop. The goal was to keep the paint looking as rough and energetic as the original line work.

...And speaking of Whistler

I spent a few weekends in Whistler visiting my girlfriend, Christine. She works at ziptrek, which is a ziplining/eco-tour company - lotsa fun. Often times her job requires her to pull in heavy folks on the lines...and there's lots of bears out there. So for some reason i came up with this. It also gave me a chance to mess around with a different style.

Summer post bonanza!

Ok, so one post for all summer doesn't technically count as a "bonanza," but I promise there will be more coming soon. For now, here's some sketches from around Whistler/Vancouver!

Mall Sketches Toronto Edition

I went into Toronto a couple of weeks ago armed with a sharpie...this is the result. It was liberating using a marker, the permanence of it forces me to be more decisive about every line I put down. I really enjoyed the feel of the marker, so I figured I'd post a compilation of some of the most energetic poses I managed to capture.

Mall Sketches

I've had plenty of time to get back into mall sketching lately. So here's a few from June that I did in the Oakville mall! More to come soon...

Grad Film!

So now that I have figured out this whole embedding thing, I guess I might as well put my film up here as well...So here it is in all its glory!

Demo Reel!

I have to post my demo reel in two separate parts due to technical issues, so the first is a sampling of 3d work done during my internship at Guru Studio in Toronto. I did the original animation (first couple of takes) on each shot, but credit must be given to the supervising animators at Guru who handled the final retakes.

The second part of my demo reel is my classical animation work done at Sheridan College.
